Mississauga, ONT. – On February 28, 2023, the Travel Industry Council of Ontario’s (TICO’s) Board of Directors approved 11 claims against the Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund totalling $62,012 to assist 37 consumers who did not receive the travel services for which they had paid.

The approved Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund claims are as follows:

  • Crystal Cruises
    9 claims to assist 22 consumers, totalling $58,246
  • Jacco Tours
    1 claim to assist 4 consumers, totalling $1,389
  • Luxury Travel Centre Inc.
    1 claim to assist 11 consumers, totalling $2,377

In addition, one claim was denied:

  • Crystal Cruises
    1 claim for 2 consumers totalling $6,831, as the claim was received after the legislated filing deadline.

The Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund is wholly-financed by the industry to protect consumers who do not receive the travel services for which they paid, due to the insolvency or bankruptcy of an Ontario-registered travel agent or travel wholesaler or due to the cessation of an end supplier airline or cruise line. The Fund only covers consumers who have booked through an Ontario-registered travel agent. The Fund is administered by the Travel Industry Council of Ontario, a not-for-profit corporation.
