TICO wishes to inform all stakeholders that the Standing Committee on Social Policy intends to hold public hearings regarding Bill 166 in Toronto on Monday, November 20 and Tuesday, November 21, 2017 to allow stakeholders who wish to comment on the matters under review.

Bill 166 includes proposed amendments to the Ontario Travel Industry Act, 2002.  The new rules being proposed are aimed at increasing consumer confidence and protection when making travel purchases.  If passed, the Bill would amend the Travel Industry Act, 2002 to recognize changes in the marketplace, such as online purchases and advertising by out of province travel businesses targeting Ontarians.  It would also create new registration requirements for individual travel salespersons and introduce new enforcement tools including administrative penalties to assist TICO to effectively administer and enforce Ontario’s consumer protection legislation.
