Smartchoice Travel & Tours located in Scarborough, Ontario has voluntarily terminated its Ontario Travel Industry Act, 2002 registration to do business as a travel retailer effective June 13, 2014. 
 

Consumers holding Airline Tickets:

Consumers who purchased travel services from Smartchoice Travel & Tours and who are in possession of their airline tickets are asked to contact the airline(s) involved to confirm their travel arrangements. This includes any consumers who commenced their travel services prior to the failure of the travel agency and who may still be in destination. It is TICO’s understanding that anyone in possession of their airline tickets will receive their travel services, however we still recommend that you contact the airline to confirm your travel arrangements.
 

Standard Claims:

Consumers with future departures who purchased their travel services directly from Smartchoice Travel & Tours Travel: Consumers affected by the closure and who will not be receiving their future travel services may request a claim form from TICO against the Ontario Travel Compensation Fund. Please note that there is a legislated 6 month claim filing deadline for Standard Claims. The filing deadline to file a claim in relation to the non-provision of future travel is December 15, 2014.


Filing a claim against the Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund:

Please note claim filing deadline listed above. Claims received at TICO beyond the filing deadline date will not be valid. Therefore, it is important to submit your claim prior to the filing deadline. Should you not be able to obtain a chargeback (refund) from your credit card company or obtain all the documentation required in order to substantiate your claim in a timely manner, please submit your claim to ensure your claim is received at TICO prior to the deadline date. Any additional documentation that is required to complete the claim can be sent to TICO when it is obtained.
